About Kiessling & Lesperance

Kiessling & Lesperance, now known as Kiessling & Riemer LLC has a long history as a law firm in the City of Lake Mills.

Beginnings

The firm was originally started by E. E. Schultz, a Jefferson attorney, who was in the process of taking over the law practice of C. S. Greenwood in Lake Mills. Greenwood’s family started the Greenwoods State Bank in Lake Mills.

In 1927 William E. Kiessling (Sr.) joined Schultz and Greenwood as a shareholder, and the firm became known as Greenwood & Kiessling.

William E. Kiessling, Jr. (“Bill”) joined his father in the firm in 1966. Kiessling, Jr., a graduate of Lake Mills High School, continued his education at the University of Wisconsin and graduated from the Law School of the University of Wisconsin.

William E. Kiessling, Jr. took over the firm in about 1970. In 1974, the firm was joined by Atty. Timothy (T.J.) Lesperance and in 1979 the firm then became known as Kiessling & Lesperance.

Atty. Lesperance practiced with the firm until his retirement in 2015.

Kiessling & Lesperance has built a solid reputation for handling probate, estate planning, real estate and elder law issues over several generations of Lake Mills residents, families and surrounding farm owners. The firm has also developed a solid practice in business law and business formation, tax return preparation and business planning.

The Future

Karen L. Riemer, a Marquette University Law School graduate, joined the law firm in May 2017. In addition to her business and human resources background, she brings insurance and litigation experience to support a variety of clients in the community.

A Lake Mills resident since 2001, Karen is thrilled to be working for the firm, and devotes herself to continuing to realize Bill and Tim’s shared goal of Kiessling & Lesperance being regarded as the premier probate, estate planning, real estate, elder law and tax preparation firm in Jefferson County.

Unfortunately, before tax season 2020, Bill saw his last client.  He died two days later leaving a legacy of patient, kind, helpful, steadfast and good works for us to remember him.  We still refer to his office space as his and only recently have begun seeing clients in “Bill’s Office”.  It has been an adjustment for those of us remaining.  Karen is committed to serving the community and Bill’s former clients under the name of Kiessling & Riemer LLC, never forgetting the spirit of a great man who was a good and faithful servant of his God and those who crossed his path.
